Culturally-Sensitive Techniques
Starting therapy can be a big step—and it’s even harder when you’re not sure if your background, identity, or lived experiences will be understood or respected. That’s why culturally sensitive therapy is so important.
Culturally sensitive therapy means recognizing that your culture, values, traditions, language, and lived experiences shape how you see the world—and how you heal. It’s about creating a space where you don’t have to explain or defend who you are. Instead, you’re met with curiosity, openness, and respect.
In my practice, this looks like:
· Taking time to understand your unique background and identity
· Exploring how culture, family, and community have shaped your beliefs and emotions
· Avoiding one-size-fits-all solutions and instead honoring your values and worldview in the process
· Making space for conversations around race, gender, religion, family roles, and more—without judgment
Whether you come from a multicultural background, are navigating multiple identities, or simply want to feel fully seenin your therapy work, culturally sensitive care helps ensure that therapy actually feels safe and supportive.
You don’t need to leave parts of yourself at the door. When therapy honors your full identity, healing becomes more authentic—and more effective.
If you’re considering therapy and want to make sure it aligns with who you are and how you live, I’d love to connect. I offer free 15-minute consultations so we can talk about what matters most to you.
